He's quiet again, and that's not a good sign, either.
"It's the worst thing I can imagine happening to anybody," he says at last. "That's why it's private, because it's a punishment. Witnesses are not relevant after a while."
He looks tired now, like something's gone out of him ever since he asked about the money.
"Lots went through it, though, and it's hard to say who deserved it."
